    Any recommendations for an IC patient of 20y who's running out of new treatments/meds to try? Any Urologists or other specialists you'd suggest who have effectively treated/managed your IC? Any info greatly appreciated.

    Hi,

    I just came to this site as I thought I would provide hope for people here in Vancouver. Like you I suffered from IC for over 20 years. In the fall of 2013, a urologist at St. Pauls advised all he could do was give me opiate suppositories. I decided to look for an alternative answer and ended up at the ICAMA (google it) in LA. I recommend the Brizmans. I started treatment in February 2014 and while it has been a slow process, I am happy to say I am mostly out the other side. The first visit must be in person. Since that time my appointments have been by telephone. Any time I need any tests, I get them from my GP. The basic premise is that IC is a result of a gut imbalance and so the way to treat it is to heal the gut. If you look at the website you will note that the treatment involves a restricted diet and supplements (including probiotics). When I think of my time in treatment here in Vancouver (only 4 years as the rest of the time I suffered in silence) I get angry at the way I was treated. I feel healthier than I have for a long long time. The treatment is arduous as the Brizmans believe that NSAIDS help contribute to the problem so you have to go pain relief free which was difficult but in the end it worked and I"m so glad I took the leap.
